I found a F E Kilner dentist Kempsey listed in Sands directory for 1903 to 1907

Here is a link to a photo of this building at a later date, which says that additions were made in 1903/1904. Such additions do not appear in this photo, therefore it must predate 1904.

Via Louise Trott on Facebook photo of Kempsey Post Office. For dating assistance, I suggest that you consult the Kempsey Museum (see below) or The Macleay Argus. When I was a child in Kempsey in the 1970s the Argus often ran double spreads of historic photos, especially to do with previous floods!

I have not looked at this site for some time but I seem to remember another photograph recently taken looking down the
main street. The comments on that photograph I seem to remember
referred to a telegraph pole outside the post office. I am not able to provide much.

Thanks for everyones input so far – the general consensus at the moment seems to be the early 1900’s!
You’re right Allan, we did have a Kempsey Can you date last year! It was this photo – http://www.flickr.com/photos/state-records-nsw/8146285255/in/photostream/
The dates for that image were narrowed down to between 1938-1949 and we put a “pre 1950″ date on the photo.

Zooming in on the photo, shows the sign to the right of F.E. KILNER as O.M. PROLL. A google search for that name brings up an ancestry.com result from the Sands Sydney Directories, showing O.M. PROLL at Kempsey in 1903 and 1904.
IF other Directories (like Sands’ Country Directories) do not show PROLL there at an earlier time, and given my earlier posting which deduced that this photo must be before 1904, then it could be that its date will be 1903 or 1902 — allowing for the collection of names in the year before each Directory was published.

Hi, I sent this photograph through to family in Kempsey. The photograph was then taken along to Kempsey Rotary Club meeting for verification and dating and the consensus was 1905. Hope this helps.
