Thanks for getting us started Julie however it’s not Caperdown Cemetery. Have a look at the second window and see if that helps work out where this could be!

Kingston, Norfolk Island – overlooking Sydney Bay towards Philip Island? There’s water there but I dont think its Manly or PalmBeach despite the pine trees as no islands offshore…unless Palm Beach looking nth to Barrenjoey

Well done PALG! You’re right it is Kingston, Norfolk Island. I’ve added the full image.
The photo comes from NRS 20013 – an album of photographs of the construction of the aerodrome on Norfolk Island during World War II. Construction was undertaken by the NSW government for the United States Army Air Force and took place between August 1942 and February 1943 in association with the United States Engineers Department, United States Army.

I went there when i was a little kid – but that was a long time ago in 1981. But its a striking perspective and must have made an impression.

Might the main picture in this month’s newsletter be Macquarie Street taken from the top of Martin Place? I am thinking the middle distance trees are Hyde Park and before that on the left are the entrance buildings to Hyde Park Barracks
