NAIDOC Week 2010 – “Unsung Heroes – Closing the Gap by Leading Their Way”

NAIDOC Week is held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The 2010 National NAIDOC theme is ‘Unsung Heroes-Closing the Gap by Leading Their Way’.

Sue Newman (Project Officer – Aboriginal Liaison) and Rose Bishop (Research Officer, Aboriginal) will join in celebrations at Tranby Aboriginal College which will be hosted by the History Council of NSW. The day will consist of speakers who have undertaken historical research to support claims for Native Title and stolen wages compensation.

Sue Newman and Susan Charlton (In Living Memory exhibition) will also meet members of the Stolen Generation who were taken to Kinchela Boys Home and Cootamundra Training Home for Aboriginal Girls, so they can share their memories and help identify people and places in the Aborigines Welfare Board photographs.
