Welcome to Archives Outside

Welcome to Archives Outside: a meeting place for people who care for archival collections in New South Wales and researchers who wish to access them. Initially intended to focus on State Records Regional Repository Network we welcome participation from all keepers and users of archives, including:

  • Archivists
  • Local Studies Librarians
  • Members of Community Groups
  • Personal Collectors, and
  • Records Managers.

While we say “New South Wales” above we hope to see this space become more international, especially as there are common archival issues around the world.

Why “Archives Outside” ?

The aim of this site is to focus on archival collections in New South Wales that are held outside the custody of State Records, hence the name. We hope to achieve two things here:

  1. promote the content of archival collections in New South Wales, and
  2. provide information on topics and resources relating to the care and management of archives.

While our focus is on State archives we are interested to hear from others who are managing or have an interest in archival collections across the State. The goal is to have practical content that will benefit people who care for collections as well as those who wish to access them.

How to Participate

We hope to create an interactive community providing feedback and comment about archival collections and practical issues surrounding the management of collections in general.
